How to Install Proton OS

Installing Proton OS

Before starting, back up your important files to an external drive or cloud storage, and ensure you have a USB flash drive with at least 8 GB of capacity.

Download the ISO File​

Prerequisite

Download the official Proto OS ISO image from our site. ProtonOS

Create a Bootable USB Drive

Requires 8 GB+ USB drive

  1. Download and launch Rufus on Windows. Rufus

  2. Insert your USB drive.

  3. On Boot Selection, select the downloaded Proto OS ISO file and click START.

Boot from the USB Drive

Select boot device

  1. Keep the USB drive plugged in and restart your computer.

  2. Immediately press your device's Boot Menu key repeatedly during startup (F12, F11, F8, Esc, or Del depending on manufacturer).

  3. Select your USB drive from the boot menu and press Enter.

Run the Installer

Configure system options

  1. Select Try or Install Proto OS from the boot menu.

  2. Once the Live boot loads, double-click Install Proto OS Icon.

  3. Choose your language, keyboard layout, and Wi-Fi network.

Select Installation Type & Complete Setup

Warning: Erasing disk will wipe all data

  1. Choose Erase disk and install Proto OS for a clean install, or select Install alongside if dual-booting.

  2. Select your timezone and set up your personal account (Name, Computer Name, Username, and Password).

  3. Click Install Now and wait for installation to finish.

  4. Click Restart Now when prompted and remove the USB drive when computer start booting again.
